Why are my alerts not working on my Droplets?

Monitoring alerts for Droplets require the DigitalOcean metrics agent. If alerts aren’t working, install the metrics agent. Only Droplets with the metrics agent installed are available for Monitoring alerts.

Install the DigitalOcean metrics agent on the Droplet, and then create or update your alert. The agent collects system metrics and sends them to DigitalOcean Monitoring, which uses that data for graphs and alerts.

To install it, see our How to Install the DigitalOcean Metrics Agent guide.

Check Alert Eligibility

After installation, go to your Droplet’s graphs section to confirm that the metrics agent is installed successfully. In the alert configuration, we only show Droplets that have the metrics agent installed.

Then, after creating your alert, go to the Monitoring page, and then under the Applied to column, confirm that the Droplet appears when you assign the alert.

For more information about creating and assigning alerts, see How to Create, Edit, and Delete Resource Alerts.

How do I disable process name collection in my metrics agent?

Disable process name collection in the metrics agent by updating the service configuration on your Droplet.

How can I allowlist the DigitalOcean metrics agent with my firewall?

Configure your firewall to allow outbound traffic on ports 80 and 443 so the DigitalOcean metrics agent can report monitoring data.
