Organizations are groupings of related teams. Organizations enable consolidated billing, payment, and invoicing, and provide detailed spend breakdowns by team. Organization owners can manage members, settings, and billing across teams in the organization while team owners can manage their team’s resources and view spending.

Organizations are available at no cost.

Organizations and Teams

Teams are where you create and manage resources, like Droplets and databases. An organization sits above teams: it holds one or more teams and consolidates their billing, but it does not contain resources directly.

When a team joins an organization:

• Billing consolidates at the organization level. The organization’s payment methods, billing address, billing settings, alerts, and tax information replace the team’s, and the organization receives a single invoice covering all of its teams. Joining an organization is permanent, and a team can belong to only one organization.

• Resource management stays in the team. You continue to create and manage Droplets, databases, and other resources within each team. The organization dashboard does not list or manage resources.

• Membership and roles remain independent at each level. Organization roles (owner, admin, and biller) control access to organization settings, membership, and billing. Team roles control access to a team’s resources and settings. Organization membership does not grant access to a team’s resources unless the user is also a member of that team.

Access the Organization Dashboard

You manage organizations from the organization dashboard. To open it, click the profile icon in the top right of the DigitalOcean Control Panel, click View Organizations, then click the organization you want to manage.

The dashboard has four tabs:

• Organization: The organization’s settings, contact emails, and membership.
• Teams: The teams in the organization and their members.
• Billing: The organization’s consolidated billing.
• API: API tokens for the organization.
