An edge server or edge node is a network server located at the edge of a network, close to the end-user devices. An edge server processes data, analytics, and computations near the data source, resulting in reduced latency and faster response times.
Edge servers are usually strategically placed geographically closer to user markets that the application serves. For example, App Platform uses edge servers to serve certain components of apps through edge server CDNs. This increases the performance of apps deployed on App Platform by lowering the latency of interactions between their users and the servers hosting the app.
