VPC subnets and routes are now in public preview. Subnets let you add IP ranges to an existing VPC network, and resources in a VPC’s subnets can reach each other. Routes let you direct a subnet’s traffic to targets you manage, such as a Droplet acting as a firewall or VPN gateway.
Droplets need routing information to reach resources in other subnets, the same way they do for VPC peering. A Droplet created before its VPC had more than one subnet needs its network service restarted. A Droplet created before 2 October 2024, or one using a custom base image, needs its routes added manually.
Manage subnets and routes using the DigitalOcean API. The Control Panel does not support them yet. See How to Manage VPC Subnets and How to Manage Routes.
