DigitalOcean Vector Databases Limits

DigitalOcean Vector Databases are managed clusters purpose-built for vector similarity search, supporting Weaviate, OpenSearch, and PostgreSQL (pgvector) for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), semantic search, and other AI workloads.
Shared Limits
- Maximum vector dimensions vary by engine. See Choosing an Engine for the per-engine maximums.
- OpenSearch vector workloads are memory-bound. Query latency degrades sharply when the HNSW graph no longer fits in RAM. See Create an OpenSearch Vector Database Cluster for sizing guidance.
- PostgreSQL HNSW indexes are also memory-bound. For corpora that outgrow RAM, use pgvectorscale’s StreamingDiskANN index, which is designed for disk-resident vector search. See Advanced Vector Workloads.
