DigitalOcean MicroVMs Pricingpublic
Last verified 9 Oct 2026
DigitalOcean MicroVMs are lightweight virtual machines that run a container image in an isolated kernel, pause automatically when idle, and resume on the next request with memory, files, and processes intact.
DigitalOcean MicroVMs are billed for vCPU, memory, storage, and outbound data transfer. Compute charges for vCPU and memory accrue per second, only while a MicroVM is running. Storage charges accrue whether the MicroVM is running or paused, so a paused MicroVM incurs storage charges only.
Compute
| Resource | Price per hour | Price per month (730 hours) |
|---|---|---|
| vCPU | $0.022 per vCPU | $16.06 per vCPU |
| Memory | $0.0085 per GiB | $6.21 per GiB |
Compute is billed per second of running time. Time a MicroVM spends creating, pausing, resuming, or paused does not accrue compute charges.
The following table shows the compute price for each size. The monthly price applies only if the MicroVM runs continuously for the whole month.
| vCPUs | Memory | Price per hour | Price per month if always running |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2 GiB | $0.039 | $28.47 |
| 2 | 4 GiB | $0.078 | $56.94 |
| 8 | 16 GiB | $0.312 | $227.76 |
| 16 | 32 GiB | $0.624 | $455.52 |
For example, a 2 vCPU MicroVM that runs for a total of 3 minutes and is paused the rest of the month accrues $0.0039 in compute charges.
Storage
Storage costs $0.05 per GiB per month. Storage charges apply to:
- MicroVM disk: The data stored on each MicroVM’s disk, while the MicroVM is running or paused. You pay for the storage you use, not the full disk size listed for the MicroVM’s size.
- Checkpoints: The stored memory and disk of each checkpoint, until you delete it. There is no separate fee for creating a checkpoint.
Destroying a MicroVM stops its disk storage charges. Its checkpoints continue to accrue storage charges until you delete them.
Outbound Data Transfer
Outbound data transfer from MicroVMs with public networking costs $0.01 per GiB, with no free allowance.
A MicroVM in a VPC network has no internet access unless you add a NAT gateway to the VPC network. The NAT gateway is billed at its standard rates.

The resource_pricing and sizes fields of GET /v2/microvms/options return the current rates and the price of each size. doctl compute microvm options shows the same information.
