Slang and Colloquialisms

Don’t use idioms, slang, or colloquialisms. They may confuse our global audience or fail to translate across cultures.

Common Usage

Follow these usage conventions to ensure terms are applied correctly and understood by all readers.

  • Use “log in to” rather than “log into”.

  • “Backup” is a noun. “Back up” is a phrasal verb.

    I need to restore from a backup.
    I need to back up my files.

  • “Setup” is a noun. “Set up” is a phrasal verb.

    I completed the setup.
    I need to set up my workspace.

  • “Frontend” and “backend” are both nouns and adjectives.

  • Use “macOS”, not “Mac”, “OS X”, or other variants.
