# Why doesn't my app's wildcard subdomain work?

App Platform requires that you [add the root domain to the app’s settings](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/app-platform/how-to/manage-domains/index.html.md#create-a-wildcard-record-for-domain) before adding any wildcard subdomains that you want to use.

For example, if you want to use the wildcard subdomain `*.example.com` to your app, you need to add `example.com` to the app’s settings first.
