My Droplet won't boot up. How can I access the recovery mode?

If your system fails to boot up, you can boot it into recovery mode to regain access to the Droplet. This mode loads a limited amount of basic features on your Droplet and can help you regain command line access to your files. Once you’ve booted into recovery mode, you can begin to troubleshoot your Droplet’s ability to boot up normally.

Some situations where the recovery mode may be useful:

  • Failure to boot for unknown causes
  • Malware removal
  • File system corruption
  • Networking issues
File system corruption can cause a Droplet to boot into read only mode.
If you lost your Droplet’s SSH key or root password, reset the Droplet’s root password in the control panel. You can use the Recovery Console to regain access to the Droplet’s SSH configuration.
You may be receiving this error for various reasons, including a missing SSH key or incorrect password.
