# How can I destroy my Droplets while maintaining my backups? We retain weekly [backups](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/backups/index.html.md) for four weeks, daily backups for seven days, and usage-based backups for a custom amount of time. You can [convert backups into snapshots](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/backups/how-to/convert-to-snapshot/index.html.md) to save the image indefinitely. If you intend to destroy a Droplet and want the most up-to-date image, power down the Droplet and [take a snapshot](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/snapshots/how-to/snapshot-droplets/index.html.md) immediately before destroying it. ## Related Topics [Can I downsize a Droplet using a snapshot?](https://docs.digitalocean.com/support/can-i-downsize-a-droplet-using-a-snapshot/index.html.md): You cannot downsize a Droplet from a snapshot.
