# Zulip Generated on 23 Oct 2025 from [the Zulip catalog page](https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/zulip) [Zulip](https://zulip.com/) is an open-source team chat application designed for seamless remote and hybrid work. With conversations [organized by topic](https://zulip.com/help/introduction-to-topics), Zulip is [ideal](https://zulip.com/why-zulip/) for both live and asynchronous communication. ## Software Included | Package | Version | License | |---|---|---| | Zulip | [11.4](https://blog.zulip.com/2025/08/13/zulip-11-0-released/) | [Apache 2](https://github.com/zulip/zulip/blob/master/LICENSE) | ## Creating an App using the Control Panel Click the **Deploy to DigitalOcean** button to create a Droplet based on this 1-Click App. If you aren’t logged in, this link will prompt you to log in with your DigitalOcean account. As an example, to create a 4GB Zulip Droplet in the SFO2 region, you can use the following `curl` command. You need to either save your [API access token](https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api/create-personal-access-token/index.html.md) to an environment variable or substitute it in the command below. ```shell curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \ -H 'Authorization: Bearer '$TOKEN'' -d \ '{"name":"choose_a_name","region":"sfo2","size":"s-2vcpu-4gb","image":"kandralabs-zulip-18-04"}' \ "https://api.digitalocean.com/v2/droplets" ``` ## Getting Started After Deploying Zulip Choose a Digital Ocean plan with at least 2GB of RAM when creating your Droplet. After creating your Droplet: 1. Create a DNS record for a hostname pointing to your new Droplet\_IP. 2. Log in to your new Droplet via SSH, and follow the short configuration script. That’s it! Once installation is complete, you can [configure](https://zulip.readthedocs.io/en/stable/production/settings.html) Zulip to suit your needs.
