# tabbydb

Generated on 25 Sep 2026 from [the tabbydb catalog page](https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/tabbydb)

TabbyDB is a high-performance, drop-in replacement for Apache Spark 4.1.3 that

fixes deep Catalyst optimizer defects causing complex queries to take hours to

compile — reducing them to minutes with zero changes to your existing code, APIs,

or infrastructure. On the TPC-DS 3TB benchmark, TabbyDB completes the full suite

16.6% faster than stock Spark, with 83 out of 103 queries running faster, and

delivers 50%+ runtime gains on Apache Iceberg tables. This 1-Click App deploys a

fully configured TabbyDB node with an interactive setup wizard on first SSH login —

simply copy your license.json to /opt/tabbydb/license/ and the wizard handles

node role, memory allocation, and optional DigitalOcean Spaces integration in

under five minutes. A 30-day free trial license is available at

kwikquery.com/download — no credit card required.

## Creating an App using the Control Panel

Click the **Deploy to DigitalOcean** button to create a Droplet based on this 1-Click App. If you aren’t logged in, this link will prompt you to log in with your DigitalOcean account.

## Creating an App using the API

In addition to creating a Droplet from the tabbydb 1-Click App using the control panel, you can also use the [DigitalOcean API](https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api). As an example, to create a 4GB tabbydb Droplet in the SFO2 region, you can use the following `curl` command. You need to either save your [API access token](https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api/create-personal-access-token/index.html.md) to an environment variable or substitute it in the command below.

```shell
curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
         -H 'Authorization: Bearer '$TOKEN'' -d \
        '{"name":"choose_a_name","region":"sfo2","size":"s-2vcpu-4gb","image":"kwikquery-tabbydb"}' \
        "https://api.digitalocean.com/v2/droplets"
```

## Getting Started After Deploying tabbydb

SSH into your Droplet to get started:

ssh root@your_droplet_public_ipv4

On first login, the TabbyDB setup wizard launches automatically and walks you

through configuration. Before running the wizard, copy your license file to

the Droplet:

scp license.json root@your_droplet_public_ipv4:/opt/tabbydb/license/

To obtain a free 30-day trial license, visit:

[https://www.kwikquery.com/download](https://www.kwikquery.com/download)

The wizard will guide you through:

- License path confirmation
- Node role selection: Master (first node) or Worker (additional nodes)
- Memory and core allocation (auto-detected from your Droplet)
- Network settings for multi-node clusters
- Optional: DigitalOcean Spaces for data storage

Once configured, access the Spark Master UI at:

http://your_droplet_public_ipv4:8080

To add Worker nodes, deploy additional Droplets from this same image, SSH in,

select Worker Node, and enter your Master’s IP address.
