# BTCPay Server

Generated on 10 Sep 2026 from [the BTCPay Server catalog page](https://marketplace.digitalocean.com/apps/btcpay-server)

BTCPay Server is a free, open-source Bitcoin payment processor that lets you accept on-chain and Lightning Network payments directly to your own wallet, with no fees or third-party custody. This image installs Docker, clones the official BTCPay Server repository, and walks you through a short setup wizard on first login. You’ll choose a Lightning implementation (Core Lightning, LND, or phoenixd) and point a domain at your Droplet, then BTCPay installs automatically with HTTPS via Let’s Encrypt.

| Package | Version | License |

## Creating an App using the Control Panel

Click the **Deploy to DigitalOcean** button to create a Droplet based on this 1-Click App. If you aren’t logged in, this link will prompt you to log in with your DigitalOcean account.

## Creating an App using the API

In addition to creating a Droplet from the BTCPay Server 1-Click App using the control panel, you can also use the [DigitalOcean API](https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api). As an example, to create a 4GB BTCPay Server Droplet in the SFO2 region, you can use the following `curl` command. You need to either save your [API access token](https://docs.digitalocean.com/reference/api/create-personal-access-token/index.html.md) to an environment variable or substitute it in the command below.

```shell
curl -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
         -H 'Authorization: Bearer '$TOKEN'' -d \
        '{"name":"choose_a_name","region":"sfo2","size":"s-2vcpu-4gb","image":"btcpayserver"}' \
        "https://api.digitalocean.com/v2/droplets"
```

## Getting Started After Deploying BTCPay Server

1. Before connecting, point a domain (or subdomain) at your Droplet’s IP address using an A record with your DNS provider.
2. Once DNS has propagated, connect via ssh root@your_droplet_public_ipv4
3. Follow the setup wizard: choose your Lightning implementation, then enter your domain when prompted.
4. Once setup finishes, visit https://your-domain to create your BTCPay Server account.
