# DigitalOcean Insights Limits (public)

DigitalOcean Insights provides observability for supported resources through metrics, logs, traces, custom dashboards, and metric alerts.

**Note**:

DigitalOcean Insights is intended for evaluation during the public preview and should not be used as the primary observability system for production workloads.

## Limits

- Not all DigitalOcean resources are supported, and available telemetry varies by resource type and configuration.
- Metric definitions and collection cadence are still being finalized for some resources.
- Dashboards may not support every visualization or configuration.
- Insights does not currently support the DigitalOcean CLI.
- You cannot use the DigitalOcean API to create, retrieve, update, delete, or customize Insights dashboards, including adding or grouping charts. Use the DigitalOcean Control Panel to [manage](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/insights/how-to/manage-custom-dashboards/index.html.md) and [customize](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/insights/how-to/customize-dashboards/index.html.md) dashboards instead.
- You cannot export trace data.
- You cannot use the DigitalOcean API to retrieve traces or spans. Use the Control Panel to [view traces and spans](https://docs.digitalocean.com/products/insights/how-to/view-traces/index.html.md) instead.
- Alert history is available for up to 30 days.
- Log sampling, exclusion filters, field dropping, and pre-ingestion filtering are not supported.
- Metric queries can span multiple regions, but each region appears as a separate series. You cannot aggregate raw metric data across regions.
- Metrics use their native collection resolution, which is one minute by default. You cannot reduce the metric data resolution or create pre-aggregated historical metric data.
- You cannot currently select resources by tag when creating an alert rule.
- You cannot mute notifications for an individual active alert.
- During the public preview, alerts, logs, dashboards, and traces show data from one region at a time.
